In my role as a high-level technology consultant, I’ve recently led the design of a cutting-edge Weigh-In-Motion (WIM) system based on Kistler technology, soon to be deployed on a new infrastructure managed by ANAS in the Valtellina valley.
The system will enable continuous, non-intrusive monitoring of vehicle loads in transit, associating each vehicle’s weight data with its license plate in real time. Thanks to seamless integration with high-precision sensors and ANPR (Automatic Number Plate Recognition) systems, this infrastructure will lay the foundation for future direct enforcement capabilities — ensuring compliance with road safety regulations and protecting public assets from overloaded vehicles.
Beyond compliance, the platform is designed to support intelligent traffic analysis, infrastructure preservation, and data-driven decision-making for road network management.
